What’s about “celebrities” that get so much attention?

Question: What’s about “celebrities” that get so much attention?
Probably some musicians, most actors and important journalists… these people have this “star” status about them without going through what say cardiovascular surgeons, neurosurgeons, dentists, rocket scientists go through!
I mean some professionals go through REALLY hard work to achieve that high level, yet they serve the community “silently” and sometimes they go through life with few friends and die and 5 people show up in their funeral.
While these stars or celebrities have so much attention and have tons of fans even if they are old.
What’s going on??

if you think about it like that, it’s kinda hard to answer clearly. Well, i don’t know it’s mostly musicians that try to grab people’s attention by doing crimes and obnoxious behavior, they don’t deserve this attention, fans are just giving it to them. Celebrities just act in favorite movies and sing some favorite song, which creates people’s attention to follow everything they’re doing in they’re career. Professionals that create most of the technology today and helped us in our hospitals with trying to cure cancer, deserve the attention, they help us all, what are celebrities going to do for us? celebrities aren’t thankful for what they have, they just expect it coming to them.

Men in obstetrics? What do women feel about male doctors?

Question: Men in obstetrics? What do women feel about male doctors?
I am a 2nd year medical student. I know I am still young (only 19) and there’s still a long time ahead for me to decide, but I have been quite interested in women’s health. I have been working on a project alongside one of the nation’s experts in women’s health and ethics, and I have found myself very attracted to an obstetrician’s job.

I just feel that it is a huge privilege to work in an area that brings life, and being trusted by a future-mother and her family on decisions for her and her child is a very rewarding and fulfilling experience. I also find it very rewarding to research and study areas concerning women’s health.

However, more and more women are demanding to see female doctors for these things. Just looking alone here in “Women’s Health” in yahoo answers you can see it- “Girl’s only”, “Women please help me”, “Women answer only” etc etc.

I’m thinking the fact that men are less wanted in this area of profession makes me wonder if I should ditch that idea all-together. Are women really better at this than men? Should I not think about going into women’s health at all? What should men keep in mind and focus on if they want to become good obstetricians?

Thanks for your thoughts.
(studying medicine in the UK, hence why I am in med and not pre-med. We get to be in hospitals, talk to patients, etc etc)

Is anyone else tired of hearing about “celebrities” who abuse prescription drugs?

Question: Is anyone else tired of hearing about “celebrities” who abuse prescription drugs?
Why does the real news seem to go on hold each time a “celebrity” overdoses?

I am tired of prescription drugs. The costs, the lawsuits, the side effects, the government regulation.

I really could care less about celebrities since many of our families are walking around hooked on painkillers.

Misconceptions About Meditation – Women’s Fitness

Misconceptions About Meditation – part of the women’s fitness video series by GeoBeats. Misconceptions about meditation are rampant. I think the primary one is that when you meditate your mind is going to be still and quiet, and as soon as you sit down and close your eyes you see that the mind has a mind of its own and it is going to continue thinking. And what the practice of meditation does is it enables you to develop a different relationship with your mind. Another misconception is that meditation has to be done in a quiet, dark room, and the environment we are in is very urban and very loud, and it actually supports the practice of meditation. So you can see right now it is really loud. OK. Can I be with that? That is OK. The meditation experience has to be a certain way that when you sit down, if you achieve bliss, then you have done it right. Or if you zone out, then you have done it right. And, actually, there is no such thing as doing it right. And if you walk away from this with one idea, it is that you cannot do it wrong. Whatever your experience is during meditation is what your experience is. It is not supposed to look any other way than the way it is. Another misconception, very common, is that you have to practice a certain amount of time every day and be rigid. Or, you have to sit in a certain posture. Any amount of time you give to meditation, whether it is one minute, or two minutes, or twenty minutes, is enough. Any bringing your mind to the present

How can I feel better about my body?

Question: How can I feel better about my body?
I have body image issues of an embarrassing nature. I feel so insecure about the size of my “package”. I just feel so tiny. I’m embarrassed to be seen naked, even by my wife.

What can I do to learn to accept my body as it is?

Thank you!

PS: I put this in the “Woman’s Health” forum because (1) the answers are so much more helpful and inciteful here and (2) i think women are better versed in body-image issues.

Thanks again!
